Kate Mellor

Kate Mellor was born in 1951 in Stourport-on-Seven in Worcestershire. She was educated at the Worcester Grammar School for Girls and later studied photography at Manchester Polytechnic School of Art, graduating in 1974. Her current studio is in Todmorden, Lancs.

She has published many books including; SHIFTS International Photography Research Network catalogue(2006), Shifting Horizons – Women’s landscape Photography Now. IB Taurus for IRIS Staffordshire University (2001).

Her images from her project The Bradford Grid Project – Architraum are colourful and striking. She has layered the same image on top of another, but she has changed the colour of each of them, creating a colour collage. They almost look like watercolour paintings. The images reflect and create a trippy experience.

Her other project I have chosen to look at Island: The Sea Front completely contrast her other project. They are simple images of the cost around the UK. The images she has produced seem to be panoramic images, which makes for a really good photo. They include people, buildings and also just the sea. I like the perception her images give of natural beauty, incorporated with man made objects. The images are so simple but yet so beautiful.
